This module focuses on the critical analysis of traditional leadership theory and evaluation of the practice of leadership in multiple settings, sectors and societies. The module will introduce students to the concept of responsible leadership, which is a departure from traditional leadership theories that attempt to focus merely on leaders themselves, suggesting that there is a real need to create a ?multi-level response? to problems that emerge on individual, organisational and collective levels. In addition to this the emphasis is placed on relationships with stakeholders and collaboration; this is particularly relevant in sustainable events management. Students emerge with the capability to critically analyse theories of leadership and examine the limitations and strengths of various theoretical propositions. More importantly, they join a community of practice of moral and ethical leadership by examining personal commitments to developing leadership competencies that would guide their behaviours and engender sustained success. The challenges faced by society today are placing new demands upon a new generation of leaders for whom `global responsibility? will not be a rhetorical phrase but will be an active ingredient in all they do.
