Academic Reading at advanced level (CEFR Level B2, IELTS 6.0) is designed for non-native speakers of English. The module involves extensive reading and text analysis of a variety of genres, including research papers, persuasive essays and media texts. It also covers the appropriate micro-skills: note-taking, summary writing, anticipating main ideas from headings, skimming for gist, scanning for specific information, dealing with unknown vocabulary, as well as identifying register, arguments and attitude. Throughout the module there is an emphasis on reading critically.
