Research at upper intermediate level (CEFR Level B2, IELTS 5.5) is designed for non-native speakers of English. This module aims to introduce students to the concept of academic research within a UK context and will enable them to undertake a small-scale secondary research project within their own academic subject. Students will learn how to narrow a topic into a research question, search for information using the university library and databases, and critically evaluate the use of sources in their work. They will learn how to organise and write the different sections of a research report, as well as how to use appropriate citation to support their ideas. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to develop and reflect upon their own study skills, including organisation, time-keeping and autonomy.
