Children and young people experience a multitude of emotional phases as they move from birth to adulthood. Understanding this process is crucial for professionals working with children and young people in a variety of settings including schools, specialist provision and care settings. This module aims to provide students with a detailed overview of both the typical phases of emotional development and the results when emotional development has been disrupted. Guidance on behaviour management will then be couched in this understanding of emotional needs and their expression. In addition, the module will critically explore the research evidence from neuroscience regarding emotional development and a range of assessment instruments used to identify emotional and attachment needs across phases will be critically evaluated.
