This single practice module will enable students to develop, analyse and evaluate clinical practice issues and challenging situations relevant to major and emergency perioperative interventions. All five graduate attributes (i.e Academic literacy, Digital and information literacy, Global Citizenship, critical self-awareness and Personal Literacy) will be developed alongside these professional issues. Aspects of patient safeguarding and vulnerability will be explored in depth with particular focus on paediatric, learning disability and mental health perioperative care needs. Psychological aspects of care such as patient, and staff, anxiety will be explored to inform management of care and teams. Students will also develop and advance practice knowledge and skills such as difficult airway management, fibre optic intubation, invasive monitoring, creating and maintaining a bloodless surgical field. This will be achieved through a process of reflection on experiences, clinical practice and achievement of competencies.
