Alpine Fieldwork in Exercise Science provides a medium through which the module team aims to enhance students' learning experiences and engagement by presenting them with physical, psychological and academic challenges. The learning is designed to go beyond the normal bounds of an academic module and should develop attributes beyond those defined as graduate attributes. Students are faced with physical challenges in possibly hostile environments where their planning and preparation determines their level of comfort and enjoyment and their ability to overcome the challenges they face generates satisfaction and self-confidence. They travel to Snowdonia and the Alps and experience some awe-inspiring landscapes. They travel through these landscapes slowly, 'under their own steam', and efforts are made to promote their appreciation of the natural and cultural environments therein. They apply what they have learnt in class and collect data before, after and during the field-trip. It is the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of this data that forms the basis of the assessments.
