Browse Hierarchy SPOR6002: Advanced Social Theory in Sport, Coaching and PE
This module addresses the socio-cultural aspects of sport such as race, gender, disability, class and religion and this module attempts to be critical of the way in which sports organisations, teaching and coaching address such issues. Using key theories relating to power (Foucault), class (Bordieu), hegemony (Gramsci) and stigma (Goffman) this module uncovers socially constructed notions in sports coaching and deconstructs them in order that students can understand how such notions manifest themselves in coaching.
