Browse Hierarchy REST7006: Real Estate Law
This module provides a framework for developing a critical understanding of law as it relates to real estate in the UK and internationally. The module covers the law of obligations (both contractual and tortious). The module develops themes and concepts that can be applied to all legal issues. Underlying jurisdictions and statutes might be specific but the general principles of Contract Law are common to all legal jurisdictions and, although bedded in UK precedent, the concept of Tort is universal. The grounding in these concepts allows the student to develop their skills and knowledge in later modules applied to commercial, residential and international law. The aim of this module is to provide sufficient knowledge of the general law to enable students to use that knowledge in relation to issues arising day to day in property management. In addition, it equips students with the necessary level of legal knowledge to identify where issues might arise and the remedies available. It will also alert them to more significant problems where professional legal input may be required.
