This module enables students to engage with the dynamic nature of a rapidly evolving part of the publishing industry. Through lectures, workshops, and talks from industry speakers, students are introduced to both the strategic and practical sides of epublishing. The module covers different business models, the growth of digital publishing in journal, professional and educational markets, and looks at how competitive advantage can be gained across a variety of platforms, including Web, CD-Rom, ebook and mobile technologies. The module considers how digital products are initiated, designed, produced and marketed. Workshops enable students to develop basic practical ICT skills in the creation of a prototype, and the assessment requires them to work effectively as part of a small group.
