In a series of lectures and workshops, this module explores the role of the designer and production department in the publishing process. This involves looking closely at current working practices in areas such as design and typography, project management, the evaluation and selection of appropriate media platforms, the buying of raw materials and manufacturing processes, and the use of external resources. Recurrent themes such as, content structure, the reproduction and distribution of publications, and the need to work within financial and technological restraints that will impact future developments in this area of publishing are also explored. Students will undertake practical and theoretical studies in one of several product lines.
