Browse Hierarchy PTE5003: Developing the Mathematics Curriculum

This module builds on the mathematical knowledge developed in Thinking Mathematically and Being Mathematical and focuses on the primary mathematics curriculum. It develops understanding of the mathematical processes of reasoning, problem solving and communicating, and on concepts and conceptual development in mathematics. You will have the opportunity to consider progression within and connections between areas within mathematics. The module will primarily address the subject areas contained in the mathematics curriculum for the later years of primary education (Years 4-6), drawing from the National Curriculum for Mathematics, the Mathematics Framework in the Primary National Strategy and subsequent curriculum innovations. It will develop issues of pedagogy in school mathematics including interactive teaching, open ended investigations, assessment strategies and the appropriate use of ICT.
