Browse Hierarchy PTE4003: Thinking Mathematically and being Mathematical

This module introduces you to mathematics education with a focus on mathematical processes: reasoning, problem solving and communicating, and on concepts and conceptual development in mathematics. It will engage you in thinking mathematically and being mathematical at your own level and draw out the implications of this for teaching. It will primarily address the subject areas contained in the mathematics curriculum for the early years of primary education (Years 1-3), drawing from the National Curriculum for Mathematics, the Mathematics Framework in the Primary National Strategy and subsequent curriculum innovations. It will introduce issues of pedagogy in school mathematics including learning through exploration, play, problem solving and the appropriate use of ICT.
