Browse Hierarchy PREM6004: Independent Study Module

The module provides an opportunity for international postgraduate students to work independently on a topic or research project under the supervision of an appropriate tutor in the relevant school, as well as language and skills support from the module leader. Firstly a research proposal must be submitted as a plan of the project and accepted by the supervisor. Following this, a learning and teaching contract is drawn up to establish the expectations of both student and supervisor. Any details of amendments should be confirmed at this stage, then the contract is signed. The work for the module is undertaken by the student on an individual basis, with some supervision. The research will be based on secondary sources, though some means of primary sources may be accepted. Most importantly, it will build on the student's knowledge within the discipline they intend to follow in their academic study.
