The aim of the module is to introduce students to the ideas underpinning the design and conduct of research in politics and international relations, starting with the `big questions' of `What exists?', `How can we know about what exists?' before moving to consider the practice and implications of different research methods. The module explicitly seeks to prepare students for conducting their own small scale research in their final year dissertation, and contains hands-on workshops and practical sessions.
