An analysis and assessment of the structure, objectives and responsibilities underlying the practice of spatial planning from a UK perspective. The legal basis, and administrative aspects of planning decision-making are then introduced, including development plan making (Regional Spatial Strategies and Local Development Frameworks), development control and the appeals process. A range of substantive concerns of planning in action are used as examples to illustrate the main themes. Issues of distributional equity and comparative elements will be introduced at each stage.
