Browse Hierarchy PLAN6001: Local Planning and Development Control

This module examines the development of policies at the local level and their implementation through the system of development control. Following an in-depth examination of the evolving statutory development plan process, there will be an investigation of the role of public involvement in policy and plan making. The role of the professional planner and the relationship between planners and elected councillors will be discussed as part of the context of decision making in planning at the local level. The implementation of local and national policy through the development control system will be explored through project work. Emphasis will be on practice and the application of planning procedures to case study material.
