This module provides a comprehensive consideration of the role of transport in society. Students have the opportunity through lectures, seminars and problem based project work to consider the economic, social and political contribution of transport in the UK and Europe. The module examines the relationship of land use and transport at the micro and macro scale, considers the development of transport policy from an historical perspective and explores the concept of accessibility and the importance of travel behaviour. A problem based project allows the students to develop skills in survey work, the analysis of transport statistics, teamwork and presentations. Students are encouraged to develop a critical perspective on today's transport problems and to think creatively about the future role of transport in society.
