The module will provide students with a critical understanding of the development of forensic mental health nursing as a specialism, and will consider the national and local models of delivering mental health care to mentally disordered offenders. It will also critically review issues related to the legislation in the UK as it affects the person with mental disorder, be it a learning disability or mental ill health, as citizens and as service users. In addition it will analyse various legal, ethical and professional elements of service delivery. A range of current issues in service delivery will be critically examined in relation to power, empowerment, and disempowerment, and how these are influenced by legal, ethical, social, economical and philosophical factors.
