This double practice module aims to explore the needs of the patient during the perioperative journey with particular emphasis on advanced anaesthesia. Altered anatomy and physiology, and the pharmacokinetics and dynamics associated with anaesthesia will be examined. In addition, the holistic care of the patient during all phases of anaesthesia will be explored including pre-operative patient assessment, care planning, clinical and technical management of the patient and legal and professional issues. The module also aims to facilitate opportunities for the student to develop self-awareness and reflection, and to expand both theoretical evidence-based knowledge and practical skills pertinent to the perioperative and critical care environment. Graduate attributes will develop through the exploration and synthesis of research, new information and existing data as well as meeting professional and module the assessment strategy.
