Browse Hierarchy MWIF7005: Promoting Health in Midwifery Practice
A 20 credit practice module, which will enable students to explore the role of the midwife in relation to health education and health promotion and then place this learning within the context of clinical practice. There will be a focus on the role of the primary health care teams, lay and community support groups and inter-professional/agency collaboration to enhance care give to families. The module will begin to examine issues such as family violence, the impact this has on family life and the referral processes that are in place. It will also explore the implications of substance misuse, alcohol and smoking on the family and examine the midwives role in screening for, and working with families who have experience of these circumstances. The implementation of individualised care pathways will be discussed and assessed through reflections on practice.
