This module provides a survey of the development of Western popular music through the twentieth century to the digital revolution, with particular attention paid to interactions between art and commerce. The module develops and enhances students' historical, stylistic and critical awareness of a variety of popular musics including developments in jazz, film music and music video as well as focusing on listening and representational skills appropriate to non-notated music.
