This module is concerned with communication skills and specifically looks at the oral skills involved in client interviewing and advocacy. Students will learn and practice the skills necessary for effective oral legal communication. They will engage in exercises and role playing to develop micro skills of listening, observing, questioning and communicating verbal information. By the end of the module, students will conduct a client interview. Students will further learn and develop oral presentation techniques. They will practice factual analysis and the skills of using persuasive language and structuring presentations. Finally students will conduct a plea in mitigation. The module will involve the use of video recording, playback analysis and students' reflection of learning.
