The module focuses on the utilisation of linguistic variation in education. We commence by examining today's classrooms and focus on the pervasiveness of linguistic diversity in education. After discussing the ways transnationalism, transmigration, and multilingual and multicultural development affect education, we pose the key question 'how do we harness linguistic variation for better education?'. To answer the question, we will study experts' views as well as look at practical evidence by drawing on a wide spectrum of linguistic and geographic contexts. A number of topics that are inherently connected to the overarching question of the module include the use of appropriate pedagogies, language-teacher training, parental/community involvement for effective education, appropriate assessment of bilinguals, and language-education planning.
