Human resource (HR) professionals and managers operate within increasingly complex and changing organisational and contextual circumstances. This module provides learners with an understanding of the principle internal and external environmental contexts of contemporary organisations. The intention is to set the role of the HR manager alongside that of other functions and to show how these integrate into a process of general management driving towards organisational success. The module examines how those in the HR function, and line managers with HR responsibilities, need to recognise this broader context and be aware that managers and HR professionals in different types of organisations (small, large, national, global, public, private and thir sectors) have opportunities and choices when taking organisational and HR decisions but also face constraints.
