This module introduces students to key concepts in financial, human resources and marketing management by developing a deep understanding of hospitality operations management. To fully understand how to manage a hospitality operation, you need to be aware of the impact of macro-environmental forces and competitor activities, which influence customer choices. You also need to evaluate the complex relationship between investment decisions based upon business planning; objective setting; and a coherent marketing strategy - including target marketing, product, price and promotion; and managing employees to deliver service quality, cost effectively. You will work in a group, using a computer-based hotel business simulation exercise, to carry out research and agree recommendations to develop the hospitality operation. Your decisions will have financial consequences and, through the computer simulation, you will develop an understanding of how to manage a hospitality operation, and how to influence the business' profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheet.
