This module offers you the opportunity to make a concentrated study of a specialised topic in social and cultural history. The topic or topics offered will be closely related to staff research interests, and will foster a familiarity with current research and a critical awareness of recent scholarship in the area under study. Research skills, including an evaluative appreciation of primary sources and their uses, will be developed. This module builds on the knowledge and capabilities developed in the level four and five History modules, and especially Everyday Life in Britain, Poverty and Welfare and Culture, Community and Family. It complements the other level six Advanced Study modules in offering you the opportunity to work on a specialised topic at an advanced undergraduate level, and thus deepen your understanding of historical knowledge and methods.
