This module builds on those elements in all basic modules which cover or touch on the cosmological, ideological, philosophical, and intellectual process that have shaped Early Modern and Modern History. Apart from introducing students to key thinkers and ways of thinking which have been constitutive of modernity, the module fosters an awareness of the importance of ideas as a causal factor in the forces of stability and change, one intrinsic to all historical processes or events, even those regarded as primarily social, economic, political, or cultural.
