This module provides an understanding of material, component and structural behaviour when subjected to medium to high impact events. The design, testing and modelling of motorsport and automotive vehicles with regard to crash worthiness is covered with emphasise placed on predicting the effects of crash events on vehicles, occupants and pedestrians using numerical and analytical models. The theory behind the numerical modelling is set out to provide a framework for accessing the validity of any numerical results.
