Culture, Criticism, Literature 2 builds on work done in Culture, Criticism, Literature 1 through processes of reinforcement and extension. The module will continue to develop the advanced critical reading and study skills required for the study of English at university through focused practical and contextual criticism, but will also extend students' awareness of themselves as critical readers, consumers and participants in the global exchange of Anglophone literary discourses. Students taking this module need to demonstrate consciousness of their own reading positions and how, in different contexts, those might be radically altered. This module thus encourages students to critique their own presumptions about the world around them and develop self-awareness of how those presumptions may enable and limit their critical faculties.
