The Research 2: Methods module takes into consideration the diverse interests and specializations of the doctoral students, as well as their increasing level of skills and sophistication as they progress in their programme. Building on work done in the previous modules, this module provides an introduction to and practical engagement with the processes of qualitative and quantitative data collection, interpretation and analysis through consideration of epistemology, ethics, validity and reliability. The educational research process is viewed holistically, and the quality of research is shown to be dependent on a chain of activities, such as formulating research questions, data collection, data analysis, and reporting of findings.
