This module aims to introduce students to some of the major developments in British Theatre practice including (but not restricted to) playwriting from 1950 to the present day. It will give students the opportunity to apply knowledge from U67017 and U67120 through practical workshops to explore and perform modern and contemporary British theatre in a manner than is informed by critical and socio-political debates. The module will also engage with the history and development of theatrical form including devising. As the sister module to U67120, `British Theatre 1950 to the Present', it will extend students' awareness of the ways in which theatre practice may be related to the specific historical, socio-political and cultural contexts of this post second world war period. The study of plays and performance pieces through workshop or performance will be informed by the exploration of their contexts through critical frameworks such as state funding, notions of race, class, nationality, gender and sexuality.
