In this double module students will acquire knowledge necessary for understanding quantitatively based empirical work and will develop practical skills in the generation, processing, analysis, presentation and reporting of quantitative data. They will develop a critical understanding of a wide range of issues in quantitative research, including sampling and questionnaire design. The module will increase students' competence in statistics and confidence in the use of standard software such as SPSS, integrating the two in the study process. Several data analysis techniques will be introduced and practiced, including measures of statistical significance and of strength of association, data modelling using regression techniques, and some more advanced statistical procedures such as analysis of covariance and factor analysis.
