This module provides an opportunity for independent study on an approved topic, conducted under supervision. Candidates select a topic area relevant to their programme of study in consultation with the module leader (or other nominated staff member) and put together a proposal specifying: the objectives of the study; the learning outcomes to be achieved; the learning activities to be undertaken; the details of the expected evidence of achievement. Topics may be drawn from (a) relevant work experience; (b) extension of an existing module; (c) an area of study relevant to a student's programme of study and not available as a taught module. The study may involve action based learning or based solely on desk research. The term `independent' in this context means `self-directed' and where appropriate this module may involve a group activity in which individual students have explicit roles, responsibilities and outcomes.
