Fundamental to conservation is an ability to correctly identify species and appreciate the high level of skill that this requires. This module develops taxonomic skills by requiring students to focus on the processes of identification of species and recognition of key characteristics of selected taxonomic groups. These are achieved by practical studies of collections and the use of appropriate taxonomic tools. In addition, the importance of taxonomy and identification are placed in the context of conservation science.
