The Major Project is equivalent to the dissertation element in many text-based MA courses. It represents a synthesis of the skills and understanding developed during the earlier stages of the MA programme, and will begin after the completion of the Research and Development Project. The Major Project can consist of one large-scale creative work/ project in the field of Composition and Sonic Art, Contemporary Arts, Contemporary Arts and Music or Social Sculpture/ expanded art practice. Alternatively, it can take the form of a portfolio of a number of separate pieces of work. These works may be developed concurrently or consecutively. Students working in a collaborative context must agree how to jointly manage their programme of work during the course of study. The portfolio option is primarily designed to allow for flexibility and to enable collaborative ventures between composers, artists, and social sculpture students, as well as between part-time and full-time students with shared concerns.
