Browse Hierarchy ARCH7027: Research Methods and Design
The module aims to advance student's knowledge and understanding of research methods available to those involved in built environment. It presents a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods and provides a forum for debate about research as well as giving students the opportunity to gain practical research skills. General research strategies are complemented by a focus on specific research techniques related to building design and performance and based on current practice. These include advanced review through multi-media, statistical and data analysis, visual research methods, interview and questionnaire design. Through the use of live building case study research within the School student's abilities to evaluate research and the role of research are developed. The module is designed to help students prepare a research design for an extended investigation into the selected topic for their Dissertation / Synoptic Design Project.
