This module explores various anthropological approaches to the human capacity for various kinds of care, nurturance, and social support. The module aims to give students an overview of the evolutionary and ecological basis of care, the neuropsychological supports for caring, cultural diversity of care practices (religion, healing, child and elder care, e.g.), as well as the care of non-human living things and the planet as a whole. Students will be expected to reflect on and apply what they learn to think about themselves, their communities, and broader contemporary social issues.
