The relevance of an anthropological approach to the study of European societies. The module starts with investigation of classic anthropological concepts within the anthropology of Europe, predominantly village or urban neighbourhood level, e.g. gender, social stratification, kinship, and social control. It then broadens out into wider, more contemporary issues, such as identity, nationalism, racism, the uses of history and ceremonial, tourism, and the EU.
