      Book  Very good on the links between technological advances and film style, but does not discuss how the technological choices produce meaning.

      It is good to have an outline of film history at hand, particularly if you have never studied film history before. The books below are good options.. Remember these books are excellent sources of the ways style is conveyed on film, but it is your task to apply general ideas to particular films.
